Pavilion Elite 190t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an older HP desktop (Pavilion Elite 190t.  BIOS dated 4/9/2010.  Intel Core i7, 3.3 GH.  The system has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 graphics card, which the system does not really utilize (yes, monitor displays go thru it and they work, but the graphics card gets no real work). The question is whether a new graphics card can work in this older system, and if so, what specs/cards should I look for?  TIA, Richard

Hi:

Nothing newer than a nVidia GT 6xx model will work in your PC since it has a legacy BIOS.

Paul,

Thank you!

Would "NVIDIA Quadro 600 by PNY 1GB DDR3 PCI Express Gen 2 x16 DVI-I DL and DisplayPort OpenGL, DirectX, CUDA, and OpenCL Professional Graphics Board, VCQ600-PB" fit that bill?

You're very welcome, Richard.

While I can't 100% guarantee it will work, it should, since it was introduced to market in December of 2010, which would mean it should work in a PC with a legacy BIOS such as your model has.

To put it another way, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Anytime, Richard.

Glad to have been of assistance.

Please let us know if the Quadro 600 works in your PC's model series.

Paul,

I actually ended up going with an EVGA GeForce  GT 640, and it was recognized by the system and is getting some work. The original graphics card (a GT 260) was getting NO work (it was displaying images, but the CPU was doing all the work).

The 640 is no hot rod, but it is making a contribution. I had some minor cable rerouting issues, just to get physical clearance for the fan, and needed a new driver (thanks GeForce Experience!) but otherwise it was easy.

Thanks again for your guidance.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance, and enjoy the improved graphics performance the GT 640 delivers.
