Instead of a hard drive consider an SSD. You have 6 SATA 3.0 ports on the motherboard and all you need is a SATA cable and a SATA power plug. If the system does not have a 2nd power plug you can easily use a SATA power plug splitter. As for locating the drive, an SSD is small and light and could be mounted almost anywhere in the chassis.

Thanks JJOcean, There is a spare power supply plug and I already have a spare data plug but there is nowhere to mount the drive (possibly requires a special bracket or drive bay fitting) so I have drilled the case chassis above the existing vertical hard drive and mounted my secondary drive horizontally using two short bolts just below the DVD drive. It's strong,secure and is working fine.
