Pavilion p7-1414
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone, I would like to use my case and upgrade the motherboard with faster processor. I have checked out the specs and know the existing MB is  MSI MS-7778 (uATX). I also know that I could bump the existing MP up to an A10 processort.

I am guessing the case is classified as a mid-tower... I did a quick search for that info, but didn't locate it. I have already increased the RAM and added a better graphics card and larger capacity power supply, by the way. I am not a gamer, but would like a bit more power to work with mid-level video editing and such.

So, what other form factor motherboards would fit in this case? I would like to use the case and transfer my RAM and graphics card over if possible. If you get my situation, I just need more processing power.

TIA!
Randy

It's not that simple -- because HP has their motherboards custom built by vendors, and neither HP nor the vendors sell those.  The custom boards often have specialized jacks to connect to hardware built into the HP cases -- and retail motherboards will not have those jacks.  So if yours has such connections, usually to a multi-port USB/Audio jack set, and you change motherboards, you will not be able to reconnect those.

Thank you for the info. I'm not surprised that they do this. I may be better off just maxing out the stated upgrade limits for now and building my own box later. Just have to watch the mulah right now, if you know what I mean.
