I have just moved cases and found the pinout for the 20 pin front USB 3 ports is not standard.  I have some male and female IDC connectors and I am happy to make up a conversion cable but does anyone know the pinout HP use?  It seems a bit of a silly secret....

Thanks

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

It may be really difficult to get the specs unless someone in this forum has access to the HP internal connector and cable specification.

I am surprised HP did this. I know HP mods chassis and MB header front panel  LEDs and power switch connectors.

This is the first time I am hearing this.

Good luck.

Regards

Yeah they have changed the pinout, the guy on this thread got some but not all of it.  https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/USB3-0-pinout-moved-mobo-to-new...

If I hadn't binned the case before I realised they were playing silly buggers with the pinout I could have belled it out myself but there we go.  The USB 2.0 headers are also different.  Standard is a 10 pin with 1 missing, these are 12 pin with 2 missing.   Oh well I will get it done and post the details for anyone that enjoys tinkering.....

it's been a while, but i had to modify a HP ftont I/O pannel that had a  20 pin usb 3.0 cable.

as i recall the HP connector is a standard dual USB 3.0 with only the USB ground wire, and the optional earth ground wire moved to the end of the HP connector,  so it was    usb pins, unused pin, usb ground pin (thin black)

usb pins, unused pin, earth ground pin (thick black)
