Prodesk 600 G2
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I acquired 3 HP desktops for my classroom. They are all HP Prodesk 600 G2s with the 200W power supply. I had intended to upgrade them using grant money so they could run more graphically intensive software to help students learn physics.

My question is this: what would be my best option for adding a dedicated GPU?

The school has some of these models in other rooms running low-profile, sff, Nvidia 750s that seem to work but  I was hoping to upgrade to something more current and capable. I have found Nvidia 1050 cards that are low profile, but they require a beefier power supply.

Can these be upgraded through HP since the parts seem to be proprietary? Do any third-party company's make a larger wattage power supply that would fit this case?

Is my only feasible option (without replacing case as well) to go with a chip that can ONLY run off of power through PCI-E?

Budget isn't a concern in terms of affording the higher end cards, but if I have to buy card and replace PSU and case I may not be able to afford everthing or have time to move all the components to new case.

1) Before you do anything, verify that the BIOS supports UEFI.

There are some dual hybrid BIOS GTX 750 cards that support the common Legacy BIOS and UEFI. Higher end cards are UEFI.

2) The PSU is unique to these Business Class computers. There is no ATX PSU that will work.

Assuming the board supports UEFI, would I be able to migrate the board to another case that will fit a higher wattage supply?

@rbumgarn,

Your NOT understanding what I said. Those models do not have an upgrade path for the PSU.

There were wiring hacks/adapter plugs, but those were UK products, which have ceased.
