Hi @SladeKidd,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Upgrading your HP OMEN 30L Desktop sounds like a great idea to enhance your gaming experience! Here's a step-by-step guide to help you with each component upgrade.
Motherboard:
- Before upgrading the motherboard, ensure compatibility with your current CPU and other components.
- Research and select a motherboard that supports your CPU socket type and offers features you desire, such as multiple PCIe slots for GPU expansion and sufficient RAM slots.
GPU (Graphics Processing Unit):
- Determine your budget and performance requirements for gaming.
- Look for a GPU that fits your motherboard's PCIe slot (typically PCIe x16).
- Popular choices for gaming GPUs include NVIDIA GeForce RTX series and AMD Radeon RX series.
- Consider factors like VRAM size, cooling solutions, and manufacturer reputation for reliability and customer support.
RAM (Random Access Memory):
- Check your motherboard's maximum supported RAM capacity and the type of RAM it uses (e.g., DDR4).
- Purchase RAM modules with matching speed and capacity specifications.
- Ensure that the RAM you choose is compatible with your CPU and motherboard.
- Aim for at least 16GB of RAM for gaming, but 32GB or more may offer better performance for newer titles and multitasking.
Storage:
- Determine whether you want to add additional storage or replace existing drives.
- Consider upgrading to faster SSDs (Solid State Drives) for improved loading times and system responsiveness.
- M.2 NVMe SSDs offer high-speed storage options if your motherboard supports them.
- Alternatively, traditional HDDs (Hard Disk Drives) offer more storage capacity at a lower cost per gigabyte.

Power Supply Unit (PSU):
- Upgrading components like the GPU may require a higher wattage PSU to provide sufficient power.
- Ensure that the new PSU has the necessary connectors for your components and meets safety standards.
- Choose a reputable brand with good reviews to ensure reliability and efficiency.
Cooling:
- Upgrading components can increase heat output, so ensure your case has adequate airflow and cooling.
- Consider adding aftermarket CPU coolers and case fans for improved thermal performance.
Compatibility and Installation:
- Double-check compatibility of all chosen components with your existing hardware and each other.
- Follow HP instructions and best practices for installing new components.
- Take precautions to avoid static discharge and damage to sensitive electronics.
Software Configuration:
- After installing new hardware, update drivers and BIOS firmware as needed.
- Optimize system settings for gaming performance, such as graphics settings and driver configurations.
By following these steps and conducting thorough research on compatible components, you can successfully upgrade your HP OMEN 30L Desktop to create a more powerful gaming station.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
