This is my first post. Ever. It’s been a long time since I’ve purchased my desktop and I believe the graphics card has finally failed me. Thought I’d reach out for help since my knowledge in these matters is about as current as the computer itself. I believe, the old card is an ATI Radeon HD 3650. is it possible to upgrade? If so what would be a good recommendation? Is the PCI interface obsolete? Or will PCIe work? It’s not going to be used for gaming. I’m just trying to get a couple more years from it. Giving it to a student who doesn’t have anything right now. Her interests are editing media files at most. AMD Phenom X4 quad core processor. Running windows 10, 64-bit. Thanks in advance for any advice.

@Batswag1280 , welcome to the Community.
The specifications for your motherboard show that it is as follows: Motherboard name: Narra3-GL8E or Nettle3-GL8E
You can look at the motherboard to see which it is and let me know. I believe that you have a PCI Express x16 and PCI slot. The ATI Radeon HD 3650 should be installed in the PCIe slot (Long black slot).

I’m still trying to navigate correctly. Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for responding so quickly. Excuse my naivety but from what I can see the identifying letters read M2N68-LA (Narra6) when I remove the card all I see is one long black slot. Hope this helps.

Hello
if this is what is stated should not be a problem
but you can confirm (or not) some points, because it can change some things
In the title it is mentioned Pavilion elite m9400f
It is this normally
https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c01535193
Phenom-9750 (A) 2.4 GHz (95W)
Motherboard name: Narra3-GL8E or Nettle3-GL8E
off you give a different model of motherboard, which seems fair with the mentioned processor
AMD Phenom X4 quad core processor.
https://support.hp.com/fr-fr/document/c01972246
1 PCI Express x16 up black
So, is the computer different from other model, or is it the motherboard, which is not original?
The model cited would be with a power supply of 350w
if this is not the case, it could change the usable graphics card model

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I’m more than a little confused about what it is I actually have. This is the first time I’ve had to open it up and after doing so it seems to be a little different than what is listed on HP website. For Instance the website says I have a 750gb hard drive, but after opening I confirmed that I actually have a 120gb SSD. Baffling (to me anyway) . I’m going to try to post a photo of the motherboard, with the graphics card still in place.

we need the exact model of your computer, and the product number
To find it follow this

Give the full name with the product number P / N
the requested product number must look like this

Ok, no more doubt, but it's very curious, the hp page does not correspond, except it is the product number
https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c01535193
FK790AA
The motherboard must be the one indicated above
You should look at the power of the power supply as well.

Ok everyone, I first want to thank everyone that’s contributed . I really appreciate the advise. Like I said, I’m old, but still green when it comes to this. As you can see by my comments, I’ve been confused as to what it is I even own with this computer. And it’s only after entering every serial number on each component that I can get a clear picture as to what’s inside the box. It appears at this point, that the power supply is failing ( amongst other things) any suggestions on a decent replacement? I’ll try to include a photo . HP-D3537F3R. the new card needs 400w
09-02-2021 12:57 PM
Hard to say, if it is recommended 400w, but your box is 350w, it could work, but, not this
Otherwise, you have to find another model
Change the graphics card, and the power supply (it may not be easy), with an old computer like this, may not be worth it
