Power Supply for an RTX 4080

Hello! I have an HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-2065ns. I want to replace its RTX 3060 with an RTX 4080. However, I believe I should change the power supply. I've searched, but I can't find one with enough capacity that is compatible with the motherboard. Is there any model available? Should I consider changing the motherboard? I’d prefer not to spend too much, as the RTX 4080 is already a significant investment.

Another point I’m not entirely sure about is whether I should also change the case. Will there be enough space for the RTX 4080? Could I run into overheating issues? I don’t have much experience, so I would appreciate any guidance anyone can provide.

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Sorry to advise a 4080 would not fit in the TG01 case.

You would have to build a new PC using a retail MB (Gigabyte, Asus, Asrock, or MSI), a retail case, and a retail power supply.

The HP TG01: case, MB, and power supply are custom parts similar to a Laptop or an All In One PC.

Your PC's specs are at this Site.

You can use the following components in a different ATX: AMD B550 MB or AMD X570 MB:

1. The HP RAM

2. The HP M.2 drive

3. The HP SATA HDD

4. The Ryzen 5 5600G

Everyone has different opinions on what MB manufacturer is the best. I can't recommend a specific manufacturer but have used: Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI MBs with great results. Asrock also makes decent MBs.

I have used Seasonic and Corsair power supplies in the past with good results.

Cases are very subjective as you will see this part when using your PC.

You need an ATX case with good airflow that works with a very large 4080. The case has to accommodate: the Nvidia 16 pin PCIe power connector to the 4080 and the 4080's overall dimensions.

You would have to do the research required to buy the components needed to work correctly with a 4080.

I would guess the Ryzen 5 5600G would be a bottleneck when paired with a 4080. You will probably want to upgrade the CPU at some future point in time.

My pleasure.

The Corsair case looks good. Verify the case width to the PNY 4080 Super width and add allowance for the Nvidia 16 pin PCIe adapter cable. The case length should be good but verify. The PNY 4080 Super length is about 332 mm.

I am not familiar with the power supply at your Amazon link. I would use a high quality power supply with the new PC build. A budget power supply could take down all components in the PC if the power supply fails.

The Gigabyte MB should be okay. However, it's an entry level (budget) MB. You could have MB thermal or power stability issues if you upgrade the CPU to a 5950X.

The 4080 Super in your link has a 320 watt TDP. I would get, at least, a top tiered 800 watt power supply.

It's your call on what components to buy. I would not use a budget power supply. The Gigabyte MB may be okay if you get an R9 CPU in the future or you could have a problem. It's anybody's guess??

The PNY 4080 Super specs at this Site state this graphics card needs three eight pin supplemental PCIe power connectors.

The 4080 Super has a 320 watt TDP.

The RM850e per this Site ships with two modular PCIe eight pin cables providing three connectors to a graphics card and the Rm850e has four PCIe/CPU inputs. So the cabling and power delivery should be good to power the 4080 Super and the CPU.
