I want to re-use the case from an older (2007-2008) Pavilion desktop.  There is one 2 wire cable I am unsure of where to plug into the new motherboard.  It has 2 very thin wires (22-24 AWG?) and a very small connector (smaller that the standard headers)  These run up somewhere near to top of the case where the power button is along with 2 USB 2.0 and audio in and out.  The wires are blue and black, twisted.  The socket  on the original motherboard is not labeled.  What are these for ?

I am pretty certain we have all of the other cables plugged into the correct sockets.  The new power supply will not turn on !

Still not 100% certain, but it is either a power indicator or a disk activity LED.

The good news is the Front Panel cable was plugged into the wrong socket.  Once that was corrected, the new (non-HP) mother board started and passed power on self test !

@Theoldwizard1,

Just to let you know I spend the last hour researching what this elusive 2-wire cable could be.  This is a tough one... It couldn't be an HP "Hood Sensor Lock" (such as p/n: 628644-001), because the last time I checked, this part has two twisted wires as described by you, but the wire colors are red and black, and it has a 3-pin connector:

Anyway, this link tells you all you would ever care to know about this part: c01694939 (hp.com), but regardless, you don't need this switch and almost everybody gets rid of it because it is a hassle: "Unplug the Solenoid Lock cable from the system board and remove the lock assembly".

Kind Regards,
