went to press the power button, and felt it break off, inside the computer. this is not even one year old. see image. this power buttin is plastic-welded on with two pins that are less than 1 mm in diameter. this is designed to fail.
luckily it is in warranty, i contacted hp, they are "suposed" to ship new face plate. BUT, problem in interim, is to turn this on and off. you can see the actual circuit board powr buttin by looking through the faceplate hole with flashlight.
LUCKILY, i have a 3d printer. i drew up a 2 mm thick piece of plastic, with two side guide pins to straddle the actual switch, a nd a center part to depress the power switch itself.
lo and behold,w ith a little dexterity, it works ! in fact, this may be morereliable than getting a new face plate !
see attached image.
if anyone else needs this, i would be ok with posting the STL file for printing (it is a work in progress, need to improve the taper and guides), but it works !
