OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-126na

Hi - asking about a power issue with OMEN PC. It's been working fine for several years [since 2016].

Then it started cutting out power. Now when I hit power button sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes is powers up for a few seconds then cuts out. Sometimes boots up fully and I start to use, then cuts out several minutes in and tries to restart before cutting out again.

In terms of updates, there was an update that ran recently when I shutdown but not sure if that's a factor.

To be clear it's not responding to power up, so is dead and unusable. The led is on at the back and I have run through all the HP virtual assistant checks to not avail.

Any help much appreciated, thanks J

@Jm1981Jm,

Welcome to our peer-to-peer HP Community Forum!

Your OMEN By HP Desktop PC - 870-126na (Z3G95EA) as fitted with the HP Odense2-S motherboard (SSID: 828A), which, by the way, is 24-pin ATX power enabled -more about that in a second.

According to your PC's manual: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05331668, your desktop is fitted with an (IMO underpowered) ATX 300-watt power supply.

Point is, if I had your issue, I would strongly suspect a (near) faulty power supply -at least a logical place to start troubleshooting given my personal anecdotally fueled experience.

So, I would suggest swapping your power supply with a different, preferably higher wattage ATX power supply (e.g. 500 watt), especially if you got a graphics card installed and/or want to upgrade your graphics card. Make sure the dimensions of a replacement power supply (LxWxH) fit inside your case.

Kind Regards,
