Hi @tbduke217,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To connect the power switch wires from your old HP Pavilion 750-417 to the motherboard of your HP Pavilion 500-056 Desktop PC, follow these steps.
Locate the Power Switch Header on the Motherboard:
- Open the case of your HP Pavilion 500-056.
- Find the motherboard and look for a small, 2-pin header labeled "PWR SW" or something similar. This is where the power switch wires will be connected.
Identify the Wires:
- The power switch wires are usually black. One wire is often marked with a stripe or a small text indicating its positive or negative connection.
Connect the Wires:
- For the HP Pavilion 500-056 motherboard (IPM17-002):
- The power switch header should have two pins. Connect the black wires from the old PC to these two pins. The orientation usually doesn’t matter for the power switch connection, so you can plug the wires in either way.
Verify Connection:
- Ensure the wires are securely connected to the header and not loose.
Test the Power Switch:
- Once the wires are connected, close the case and power on your computer to check if the power switch is functioning correctly.
If you're unsure about the header pin configuration or if the motherboard has a different labeling system, consult the motherboard’s manual or look for a diagram on the motherboard itself that indicates the power switch header pins.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
