HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought a 800 G5 Mini desktop (7PF50EA#UUW) which has two slots for M.2 2280. I needed to add another Nvme drive to it but the 2,5" hard drive cage + fan is too thick and/or the M.2 slot is too high. The hard drive cage touches the M.2 drive and is impossible to be placed correctly.

The hard drive cage is not important to me as I won't be using a 2,5" drive but is the fan screwed on it important? Is the fan supposed to be cooling a hard drive installed in the cage or is it a common fan for other hardware?

Here is an image of the parts:

In the illustration the hard drive cage is missing the fan. So I think it is not important but it would be nice to be sure.

The drives are Samsung EVO 970 500GB. With the cage+fan out of the way I could also add a heatsinks if necessary.

In the picture:

1. M.2 slot too high

2. Cage touches the installed M.2 drive so the cage does not lock in to place
