Pavillion 590-p0066
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have been trying to install a 16 GB Optane module in my Pavillion 590-0066 with no success.

I have updated the BIOS from F.31 to F.40 with no problem.

After installing the module, it is recognized fine by the BIOS but I noticed that under the Storage Options the SATA Emulation changed from AHCI to RAID.  Then the system will not boot with and error of "INACCECIBLE BOOT DEVICE".

In the BIOS it will not let me change it back to AHCI.  It also will not let me disable the Optane.

If I remove the Optane,  it will then let me change the SATA emulation back to AHCI and the system will boot OK.

Any suggestions on how to get this to work?

It should be doable, because the 590-p0050 is identical to the 590-p0066 except it has and Optane and less RAM.

Thanks.

@Swamped1,

There is a guide from Intel than explains the procedure.

Hi,

I looked at the Intel document and it is a little more detailed than the HP one here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05591811?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001

The Intel document says to change the SATA controller mode to "Intel RST Premium".  The BIOS does not give that option.  In fact, it will not let the mode be changed with the Optane module installed.

The HP page says to set "Configure Storage Controller for Intel Optane", but I do not see that setting anywhere in the BIOS.

The Intel document also says to set "Hardware Remapping" which is another BIOS setting that I do not see.

All the other requirements mentioned are met.
