Problem removing back panel from my HP Pavilion a1010n

My HP Pavilion a1010n was broken beyond repair during transit; brought it to a Geek squad. Have to surrender it to the carrier for insurance. Having a problem removing the back panel to take out my hard drive before relinquishing it. Followed tube/video instructions & HP instructions to loosen the thumbscrew; then lift to remove the panel, but it wont work. Feel so stupid but I cant get it off. I know it came off when they examined it. what am I missing or not understanding? No one close by to help & can't bring it anywhere. Help, please. Thanks!
