HP ENVY 34 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 34-c1000 (4G584AV)

Hello and thanks for help with my issue. I have a brand new HP ENVY 34 inch All-in-One Desktop PC 34-c1000. It came with 2 Samsung 8 gig RAM modules: DDR5 SODIMM 8GB 1Rx16 PC5-4800B-SC0-1010-XT   T2HF000   M425R1GB4BB0-CQKOL   SX2Y. I have attempted to add 2 more 8 gig modules for 32 gig total. When I add 2 more 8 gigs, I get beeps and a blank screen. Initially I was told the 2 new modules were probably not exact matches, so I purchased four 8 gig RAM modules - all the same - from Amazon: 8GB  1Rx16  PC5-4800B-SC0-1010-XT  M425R1GB4BBO-CQKOL  SX2Y. I removed the original RAM modules, and put two of the new RAM modules into the same slots - the computer booted fine. Then I added the two other new RAM modules into the other 2 slots, and I got beeps and a blank screen. HP support told me to bring the computer to Best Buy to have someone there add the additional memory. Is anyone aware of any settings that must be changed to add additional RAM to this machine? Sorry for so much detail, but I wanted to be complete. Thanks very much!

Hi @Dgat ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's strange that you're experiencing issues while upgrading the RAM on your HP ENVY 34 inch All-in-One Desktop PC. Let's try to troubleshoot the problem. Here are steps you can follow:

Check the RAM Specifications:

  • Ensure that the new RAM modules you purchased are compatible with your system. It looks like you've purchased modules with the same specifications, but it's always good to double-check.
  • Make sure the speed, type (DDR5 SODIMM), and capacity match the original modules.

Install RAM in Pairs:

  • Ensure that you are installing the RAM modules in pairs as per your system's requirements. Some systems require RAM to be installed in specific slots for dual-channel operation.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the new RAM modules for any physical damage. Check the connectors for bent pins or other issues.

Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Sometimes, changes in hardware may require resetting the BIOS or UEFI settings to default. You can do this by entering the BIOS/UEFI during startup (usually by pressing a key like Esc, Del, or F10) and finding the option to reset to default settings.

Update BIOS/UEFI:

  • Check if there's a BIOS or UEFI update available for your system on the HP support website. Updating the BIOS can sometimes resolve compatibility issues.

Try Each Module Individually:

  • Test each new RAM module individually in each slot to identify if there's an issue with a specific module or slot.

Check for Maximum Supported RAM:

  • Verify that your system can indeed support the total amount of RAM you are trying to install. Sometimes, there are limitations on the maximum RAM capacity.

Memory Slot Issues:

  • It's possible that there might be an issue with one or more memory slots on the motherboard. Test the modules in different combinations and slots to identify if a specific slot is causing the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-

Hello and thanks very much for your response. I performed most of the steps mentioned, but nothing changed. The one step you outlined - ensuring compatibility - is what I am going to try next. I returned the RAM I had purchased from Amazon and am waiting for new RAM from Crucial, which according to their site is compatible with my machine. I appreciate your time and will update here once I receive the RAM and can try it.

Hello Gaya 1239 and continued thanks for your help and support with this issue.

I contacted support through the link you provided. Unfortunately I was sent to a department that told me I would have to pay $51 to pay for a support program, even though my machine is under warranty. They said that since the machine came with 2 RAM modules and I was having an issue adding 2 more, the warranty doesn't cover that(?) It only covers the original RAM. I find that very perplexing and denied purchasing the warranty program.

Instead I used Crucial RAM to purchase a 32 gig RAM kit (2 16 gig modules) guaranteed on their site to be compatible. My goal is to get my machine to 32 gig. My original plan was to add 2 8s to the second set of slots, adding to the original 16 gig in the machine. As that isn't working, I figured if I simply put 2 16s in the first 2 slots, I should be okay - unfortunately that didn't work either. I received a "Memory not supported" message and the computer was shut down. I removed the 2 16 gig modules, replaced the original 8 gig modules, and am back to where I started.

Forgive my long response, but I am frustrated with the inability to simply add more RAM to this machine. I'm not sure what to try next.

Once again, thank you for your input. It's unfortunate that I can't upgrade this machine as it is a very nice computer and in every other way is an excellent product.
