Processor Upgrade

I would like to do an Upgrade on my Envy 700-074.  I several options to update the Processor but not sure which one I should choose.  I would really like to have some experience with the different chips and not just choose the i7 4790 (Haswell) 3.6 Ghz Quad Core which seems to be the Max for my Motherboard.

You are correct in your presumption that the i7-4790 would be the highest performance processor that is compatible with the motherboard.  HP fully tests all of the processors in the list to assure they are compatible.  Otherwise, there is no guaranty that another processor will be compatible.  HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.  So, they are not necessarily the same as retail boards.  You should definitely see an increase in system performance with the 4790 over the 4430.

Another upgrade that would make a major performance boost is a SSD boot drive.  Here is a HP Knowledge Base article that will help you with the upgrade:

What SSD would be compatible with an HP Envy 700-074?

@BrianD4, I like Samsung SSD's.  They seem to work best with HP motherboards and BIOS'es.  The Samsung 860 EVO or similar, is good.
