Hello all,
I thought I was at a disservice when I was offered a "soon to be recycled" HP-Z620 as compensation for going above and beyond for someone at work. After perusing these forums I am finding the machine MUCH MORE flexible than i initially thought! 😁
I do have a question regarding processor upgrading however. Current situation is the machine has the Xeon 2609 V2 processor from 2013/2014 when it was purchased. I also took note that it does indeed have the 2013 BIOS boot block (V2). From what i have already read I can use any Xeon V2 LGA1022 processor. My question to you experts is which of these two do y'all recommend?
E5-1660 V2 @ 3.7GHz
OR
E5-2680 V2 @ 2.8GHz (both can be had at under 100)
The cache sizes on the 1660 are considerably smaller but the 2680 seems to be the win with the larger cache sizes. Has anyone here ramped up the 1660? If so, at what point do you recommend a heat sink upgrade?

*EDITED PART DUEX*
UPDATE: Pulled the trigger on a E5-1650, the 1660s and 1680s are still WAYYYYY too expensive. I plan to OC it via XTU. Anyone any recommendations on a "better-than-OEM" CPU cooler?? I have seen "Brians" liquid cooling setup and I'm NOT trying to go that extreme with it 😋

We should try several sites like this
The E5-2680 seems more efficient, then you have to see the price!
the fan must be provided or not it depends it seems to me.
So if already with it must be tested, if no overheating may not be necessary to change it!
also see if you can install the original one
after there is nothing specific about the exact configuration
Maybe it would be more useful to change the graphics card, more memory?

Already have HP certified memory on the way and i'm running a GTX1070 with 8GB dedicated memory.
Just trying to get the best bang for my buck outta this "tank" of a server box haha

I answered this question right?
See what is with the processor it may be enough!
otherwise, difficult to answer there are so many models
See according to price and brand, try comparative sites
