Prodesk 600 G3 Mini
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My working ProDesk 600 G3 mini started with an i5-6500T, so the 35W CPU. I have the 90W power adapter that according to HP's support for the ProDesk 600 G3 should support a 65W CPU with the 90W power adapter. Now, I put an i7-6700 into the system and now it gives me the 3 red, 4 short white LED blinks, which is the system power error. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The latest BIOS is installed, and it still won't boot with the i7. Not sure if the spec sheet was just straight up incorrect, or I'm just stupid. But it said that up to an i7 7700 was possible as well as the i7 6700.

@FloppyFish,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

And this is exactly why I scrapped my underperforming charger for a much larger power supply for my DM upgrade project: Solved: Upgrading an HP EliteDesk 800 65W G4 Desktop Mini (DM) - HP Support Community - 8708671.

Your power issues will be gone -poof- forever with this highly affordable 230-watt power supply: HP 230W AC ADAPTER HSTNN-DA12 19.5V 11.8A Power Supply 609946-001 608432-003 | eBay.

You will thank me later.

Kind Regards,

Thank you! I will definitely be getting a new power adapter soon. But I have also come to the conclusion I’m a bit slow. The official spec sheet doesn’t list a non T processor, they are all 35W for the Prodesks. From my understanding, Prodesk G1s accepted the larger wattage cpus and the newer Elitedesk models accept the high wattage cpus as well. Have you tried to use the high wattage adapter with the prodesk lineup? I do want to make sure it works before going and purchasing a new adapter - Thanks again!

@FloppyFish,

Yes, I am using the 230-watt power supply for my HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM.  Your PC only takes the power it needs, so powering your Mini with a larger capacity charger is no problem whatsoever.

I was able to install an i7-8700K which sports a toasty 95-watt TDP in my HP EliteDesk 800 G4 DM, which was only supposed to be compatible with 65-watt processors.

Kind Regards,
