HP ProDesk 600 G3 Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I'm trying to upgrade my Prodesk 600 G3 SFF with an nvme SSD. I got a Fanxiang S500 Pro 256gb drive. Unfortunately it's not found in BIOS or when trying to install windows from USB. I've tried:

  • Using it as the only drive or alongside a 2.5in SATA SSD.
  • Enabling/disabling legacy/secure boot.
  • Enabling/disabling the M.2 socket(s) in BIOS.
  • Testing the drive in another PC (it works).

Any thoughts on what else I might be able to check? I'm starting to think my M.2 socket may be dead but no idea how to check for sure.

Hopefully I've included all necessary info - apologies if not, I'm new here!

Cheers, Matt

Hi, Matt:

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound good.

Windows should have detected the drive even if it may not have shown up in the BIOS.

If you are getting the message that Windows can't find any drives, the only other thing I can think of that you can try would be to load the storage controller drivers.

I have zipped up and attached below, the Intel storage controller drivers that Windows needs to find the drive.

The attached file is good for W10.

Copy all of the files in the folder in the attached file to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the W10 installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Click Next and Windows should find the drive and install if the slot is not defective.

Thanks for your reply Paul. I'm getting the message "we couldn't install the [Intel(R) Chipset.... ] device driver. Contact your vendor for an updated driver."

I think it's time for Plan B where I stick with the existing SATA SSD for the OS and then split a larger HDD into partitions instead of having multiple drives.

Thanks anyway, Matt

You're very welcome, Matt.

Sorry, that didn't work for you.
