Prodesk 600 G4 MT
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a Prodesk 600 G4 MT PC running Windows11.  I have upgraded to an Intel 8600k processor from a Pentium G5500.  I immediately had issues with upgrading the Graphics driver from the Intel Website and the update failed.  I see that in the HP Specification document for my PC the Intel 8600 processor is one of the processors available but no mention of the 8600k.  Has this model PC got an issue with the Intel 8600k processor?

Hi:

According to the HP quickspecs the i5-8600K is not supported.

The i5-8600K runs at 95W, and the max supported wattage for the processors the 600 G4 uses are 65W.

If you look at the comparison specs of the two processors, they both use the same Intel HD 630 graphics.

I'm surprised the PC even booted up with that processor installed, so the fact that it did, and you are only having issues with updating the Intel graphics driver, leads me to believe that it is a driver issue.

Did you try manually installing the Intel graphics driver?  If not, you may want to see if that works...

First, create a system restore point so that you can roll back to the current graphics driver you have installed, just in case the updated driver does not work to your expectations.

Next, download and save the latest Intel HD graphics driver 64 bit ZIP file from the link below.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28991/Intel-Graphics-Windows-10-DCH-Drivers?v=t

Unzip the graphics driver file to its folder. Do not do anything with the files in the folder.

To unzip the file, right click on the graphics driver zip file you downloaded, and select Extract All.

Go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category

Click on the Intel HD graphics adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab. Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

Click on Have Disk, and browse to the unzipped graphics driver folder>Graphics>iigd_dch (setup information file), click Next, and the driver should install.

Be patient, as it can take a few minutes for the driver to completely install.

When the installation is finished, restart the PC.

To update the Intel HDMI audio driver to the latest version, go to the device manager, click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device manager category.

Click on the Intel HD audio device listed there.   Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the unzipped Intel graphics driver main folder.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked, and the driver will install.

Thanks for the response. The PC is the Microtower model and not the Mini, so I would not think the higher temperature would be an issue.  The PC is working OK after an initial blue screen and an error message shown below which is lost on me!  I’m not a gamer, so heat should not be an issue.  I will follow your instructions re the Graphics driver and see if I can update it.

You're very welcome.

If you look at the processor specs, the table shows that no 95W processors are supported in the Microtower form factor either.

The grid shows what form factors each of the listed processors are supported for.

Unfortunately, I would have no idea what that error is, or what to do about it,

You may want to consider backing up your files and clean installing W11 by making bootable installation media with the W11 media creation tool.

Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

The first error line seems to indicate that there may be some kind of issue with the factory system image you upgraded from.

Paul, I managed to update the Graphics driver manually, following your assistance. Many thanks
