@browntalon,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

By the way, your HP Pavilion 550-153w Desktop PC (N0A97AA) as fitted with a Pegatron Memphis2-S motherboard (SSID: 2B2C) can be upgraded with the famed "Devil's Canyon" processor -aka the i7-4790K, as this User did: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/54622502.  Mind you, if you go this route, it would be a good idea to improve the air flow through your case by adding an additional cooling fan and upgrade your CPU heatsink, but I digress.

According to HP's specs, the original stock power supply was an underwhelming 180-watt unit, with p/n: 759049-001 -please verify. Fortunately, because your motherboard is 24-pin ATX-power enabled, meaning, you can upgrade your power supply with any industry standard ATX power supply, as long as you watch its dimensions (LxWxH) for fit inside your case.  For example, the Corsair CX series should be a fit -still do your own verification, though: https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Bronze-Modular-Low-Noise-Supply/dp/B0CQMQY2V2/ref=sr_1_1?crid=25N8PVW..., and with a 550-watt power supply, consider a smaller-sized (two fan) RTX 2060 Super, RTX 3060, or an RTX 2070, powered by a single 8-pin PCIe power cable, for example.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
