Hey!

I have the Omen 25L with i5-14400 , 16GB ram, 1TB .

I see from information about the mainboard that it supports the i9-14900K .

That is tempting.

I suppose I need a new cooler (that shouldn't be a problem).

This CPU is still available for order brand new. I'm reluctant to buy second hand hardware especially since it's a K.

The non-K is 50% more expensive ...

The higher TDP shouldn't be a problem since I have no plans of overclocking the processor.

So here's my point/question:

How complicated is it to upgrade the CPU on this computer? It's a 2024 model, maybe nobody has seen the need to upgrade yet? If anyone has done it before, any help/advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Upgrading an Intel CPU is moderately difficult. But doing this for the first time can also be a challenging experience.

And you don't want to bend or break the CPU socket pins while doing the upgrade.

You should check for a BIOS update before installing a 14900K CPU. 14900K CPUs could be susceptible to degradation due to improper voltages.

HP has released BIOS updates to mitigate the potential over voltage issues on many HP MBs.

You might have to install a better  CPU cooler. You'll have to keep an eye on CPU temps as you use the new CPU. The 14900K could thermal throttle or power limit if the CPU cooling is inadequate.

Check out this Video on how to upgrade an Intel CPU.

Your PC's MB CPU socket is compatible with a 14900K since you are using a 14400 now. And you have stated HP has validated  the 14900K for use in your PC's MB. CPU validation is critical to ensure a good POST after installing a new CPU.

You can always have a local PC Tech do this upgrade if you are uncertain.

Hey, thanks for a good solid answer.

Follow up: I think the PSU is only 650W

I upgraded the GPU to 5070 dual OC, I suppose it draws a lote more watts than the original 4060

So is there any room for CPU upgrade?

My current 15-14400F maxes out at 150W

Thanks in advance
