Hello there,
I have a couple of questions about upgrading my Desktop PC (Model: 880-156ng). Specifically, I'm confused about the memory upgrade options for the Tampa 2 motherboard that's installed in my system.
I found two different versions of the motherboard documentation:
- Version 1 states that a maximum of 32 GB PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) UDIMMs is supported.
- Version 2 mentions support for up to 64 GB PC4-21300 (DDR4-2666) and PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) UDIMMs.
Which of these is correct?
Additionally, I recently purchased a new PSU (bequiet! System Power 10 550W) because I plan to install a new graphics card (ASUS DUAL RTX 4060 O8G-EVO). However, after connecting everything, when I tried to power on the system, the CPU fan only spun briefly, the power button light turned on, but nothing else happened—the system didn’t start.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing this issue?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Max

Hi @Kronibus
having an 8 th generation processor applies the DDR4-2400,therefore either link applies to your system, if by mistake you put DDR4-2666 , it doesn't matter because the memory BUS lowers the frequency to 2400. About the power supply I can't recommend any, HP desktops use non-generic power supplies, and this must be the issue.

not that you can't use a generic one, but that all pins must match correctly, have you tested using the original 500 watt power supply?

I’ve tested the system with the original power supply, and it starts up without any issues. As far as I know, the original PSU is 420W, not 500W.
However, I noticed that the motherboard connector on the new PSU supplies power to one more pin than the original PSU. Could this be the reason why the system doesn’t start with the new power supply? If so, is there a way to work around this?
I will post a picture of the new and the old plug soon.

That extra pin is the difference, according to the specifications of your model it has a power supply of 500 watts.

Thanks for confirming that the extra pin might be the issue. I’ve attached a picture showing the old and new connectors side by side, where you can see that the new PSU powers one additional pin compared to the original.
Is it possible to simply disconnect or remove that extra pin to make the new PSU compatible, or would that cause other issues?
I appreciate your help with this!

It is very difficult to know, this should be done by an electronics technician and see the voltage on each pin and which one corresponds to the motherboard,
These models come with 300 watts, 500 watts and 750 watts power supply, I will look for the power supply of this model which is 750 watts.
