HP Omen 880-160se
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just got this Hp Omen 880-160se, looking to upgrade the RAM. I know it has 16gb ddr4 2400, but when I go look online I find that this motherboard can also use ddr4 2666. Is this true? Also if it's true would it be better to use 2x16gb or 4x8gb? Thank you

hi

  • Memory slots: 4 DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Maximum memory:
    • 32 GB (4x8 GB) (64-bit OS)
Must select one of the following options:
  • 8 GB (2x4 GB) DDR4 PC4-19200
  • 12 GB (1x4 GB+1x8 GB) DDR4 PC4-19200
  • 16 GB (2x8 GB) DDR4 PC4-19200
  • 32 GB (4x8 GB) DDR4 PC4-19200

this is what is indicated for this model

Tampa2 motherboard specifications.

with a link for the motherboard

  • Dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture
  • Four DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400)
  • Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers

but, we find for this same motherboard, other information

motherboard specifications, Tampa2

  • Dual channel (2 DIMMs per channel) memory architecture
  • Four DDR4 UDIMM (288-pin) sockets
  • Supports PC4-21300 (DDR4-2666) and PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400)
  • Supports 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB DDR4 UDIMMs
  • Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
    note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory.
  • Supports up to 64 GB (unbuffered) with four 16 GB modules and 32 GB (unbuffered) with four 8 GB modulues on 64-bit computers
May be depending on the bios version
so normally no worries, provided you have the right compatible modules

for one max 8gb, but 16gb for the another one

I think, that it is continuation, has other configurations tested then, it is exactly the same motherboard
to see, if you need 32 gb ...

Would it hurt to try the 4x16gb ddr4 2666 first, then if that does not work then go for the 4x8gb 2400

Are you talking to me about installing 64gb of ram ?!
I'm not even sure 32gb will be fully used, so 64gb ...
Most will tell you yes, go for it
But I prefer to warn you, that you risk investing in something may be unnecessary.
the product page is not precise, what is your exact configuration?
