I have a brand new HP PC with 8 gig of RAM. Why is the RAM always using 78% to 80% at idle?

Thank you for the response. I feel better knowing that's how things are now with the new PC's. If I had known that before I bought the PC, I would have looked at getting 16 gig of RAM. I did remove a lot of stuff that was running in the background and that brought it down only about 5%. I will get rid of the McAfee as soon as the "free trial period" is over. I will also look into the utility that you mentioned. Thanks again!

Here is a picture I took as I could not get a screen shot of the task manager. Where you see processes of 9.5 meg, there are dozens more of those processes between 1 meg and 9 megs. I do not understand why a brand new PC is running at such a high memory usage when my older PC runs at only 22% with a lot more programs on it. It is annoying that I cannot actually talk to HP and get help after buying the PC directly from them.

That's how things are now with window. More and more AI demands and less optimization. First you need to optimize your windows by uninstalling useless apps, software, disabling startup app, de-bloating , etc. Many safe optimization guide available on internet. I recommend using Chris Titus Tech's Windows Utility and applying only the essential tweaks (you can search about this on YouTube to instructions). That will help greatly and it's safe. I would personally avoid other methods or guides.
After using that utility you will notice reduce ram usage. Also, uninstall that MCAfee antivirus. Most people already did uninstall it due to performance concerns. You can use it if you want you want by the way. That's your choice.
