Looking to upgrade RAM as work around to increase VRAM capacity which is currently 4GB dedicated VRAM in Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050. Have read the few community threads pertaining to RAM upgrades in devices similar to mine but do not see anything relevant that is more recent. I currently have 2x 8GB SK Hynix 5600 MHz DDR5 SODIMM banks (PN: HMCG66AGBSA095N) installed in DIMM1 and DIMM3 as OEM (running at 4000 MT/s).  Processor is Intel® Core™ i7-12700 (up to 4.9 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology, 25 MB L3 cache, 12 cores, 20 threads).  Would like to swap these out for 2x 32GB SK Hynix 5600 MHz DDR5 SODIMM banks (PN: HMCG88AGBSA092N) and would like to know if this should work as HP support is completely lacking on this subject.  The past fixes mentioned in the community threads that have seemed to work for this sort of upgrade were with Samsung RAM banks but that was over 2 years ago.

Hi @Envy959,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching us regarding your HP ENVY All-in-One 34-c1xxx Desktop PC.

Your system is equipped with:

  • Intel® Core™ i7-12700 processor
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 with 4GB dedicated VRAM
  • 2×8GB SK Hynix DDR5-5600 SODIMM (HMCG66AGBSA095N) installed in DIMM1 and DIMM3

You are considering upgrading to: 2×32GB SK Hynix DDR5-5600 SODIMM (HMCG88AGBSA092N)

HP-Supported Memory Specifications

According to HP’s official documentation:

  • Maximum RAM Capacity: Up to 128GB using four 32GB DDR5 SODIMM modules
  • Supported Memory Type: DDR5 SODIMM, 262-pin, up to 5600 MT/s (actual operating speed may default to 4000 MT/s depending on BIOS and SPD profile)
  • Recommended Configuration
    • Install memory in matched pairs for optimal dual-channel performance
    • Use DIMM1 and DIMM3 for two-module setups
    • Ensure modules are unbuffered, non-ECC, and dual-rank

⚠️ Important Compatibility Notes

  • HP systems may reject memory with non-standard SPD profiles. This can result in “Unauthorized Memory” or “Unsupported Memory Population” errors during boot.
  • While SK Hynix modules are OEM in your system, HP cannot guarantee compatibility with all third-party part numbers. However, using the same brand and speed grade as your current modules improves compatibility likelihood.
  • Samsung DDR5-4800 SODIMM (M425R4GA3BB0-CQKOL) has been confirmed to work reliably in similar upgrades.

Installation Best Practices

  1. Update BIOS to the latest version before installing new memory.
  2. Install modules in matched pairs in the correct slots (DIMM1 and DIMM3).
  3. Boot with one module first, then add the second to test compatibility.
  4. If you encounter boot issues:
    • Try swapping slots
    • Reset CMOS
    • Reinstall original modules to verify system integrity

📌 VRAM Clarification

Please note: Dedicated VRAM on the RTX 3050 is fixed at 4GB and cannot be increased via system RAM upgrades. However, increasing system RAM may improve overall performance in memory-intensive applications and allow more shared memory allocation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
