Pavilion P6380D
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Model: HP Pavilion P6380D, AY701AA-AB4, i5-650 processor, 64bit OS, x64-based processor

Motherboard: MSI Iona 1.0 (MS-7613 ?)

Existing RAM: 1pcs x 2GB DDR3 RAM, M378B5673EH1-CH9 (PC3-10600U-09-10-B0), supplemented with ReadyBoost USB 4GB on Windows 10  Home.

Intention: Replace with 2pcs x 4GB DDR3 RAM, M378B5273CH0-CH9 (PC3-10600U-09-10-B0)

Say, if I've 2pcs x 4GB RAMs that come in and slot into DIMM1 & 3 (black slots),

which would be the preferential option below? Thanks.

a. Toss away the 2GB RAM on DIMM2, as it'll affect the optimization of the new 2pcs x 4GB RAMs.

b. Keep it as the 4GB RAMs are in DIMM1 & 3 (black slots), whereas the singular 2GB RAM is in DIMM2 (blue slot).

Kindly pardon my ignorance for those who are well versed.

I'm curious as to how much actual impact an existing 2GB RAM will have (if unremoved), after new 2 x 4GB RAMs have been plugged in. Thanks.

hi

Motherboard Specifications, MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E)

Memory upgrade information:
  • Supports DDR3 DIMMs only
  • Dual channel memory architecture
  • Four DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
  • DIMM types:
    • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
    • PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
  • Non-ECC memory only, unbuffered
  • Supports up to 16 GB on 64-bit PCs
  • Maximum memory only if using 4GB DDR3 DIMM modules.
note:
32-bit PCs can only address less than 4.0 GB of memory. This motherboard is not planned for use with a 32-bit OS
.

if you buy two other identical modules
you can very well leave the original module, and install the other two on the black slots indeed!
This will make you 10 GB instead of 8 GB, this can be useful!
If the marks are different, or the modules are not quite identical, it may not work with the original one, in this case it will have to be removed!
I did the manipulation on my pc, with two different modules (slower), but it works very well!
this allowed me to go from 4go to 10 using the 2go modules of my old hp ..

Hi Promethee,

Thanks for the sharing. 🙂

Was undecided as I've read other comments elsewhere that the 2GB might slow the other 2 x 4GB. And also recommendation to keep spaces between DIMM1 & 3 for factoring heat dissipation. (The 2GB might go into DIMM4, just in case).

Thanks.
