HP OMEN GT13-1094
Microsoft Windows 11

I bought this system a few weeks ago.  It has four memory slots, two of which are filled with HyperX XMP RGB  8 GB modules (16 GB total).  The other two slots are empty.  I'd like to know my RAM upgrade options.  Back in the day, a couple of decades ago, RAM had to be added in pairs, I think.  Is that still the case?  Or, could I buy, say, a single 16 GB or 32 GB module and plug it into one of the two empty slots (for a total of 32/64 GB in the PC)?

Last year I pulled a pair of 8 GB hypersomething from my Area51 and tried a pair of 16 and all I got out of it was a lot of beeps.  Fortunately, I had bought the chips for another motherboard and I was just curious if they would work.

HP sells systems that have mismatched manufacturers and total 4+8 = 12.  The system work OK.  That being said, if I were you and wanted to upgrade I would obtain a pair exactly like the ones you just bought before the manufacturer changes the design.

I appreciate your suggestion to buy a pair matching those already in the system, however, I can't seem to find such.  Using HP's product locator (or whatever it's called), choosing Memory, is problematic because whether I enter the name/model number of the system (presumably HP OMEN GT13-1094), or alternatively the serial #, it tells me there are no matches.

Re: your comment of HP's practice of selling RAM from mismatched manufacturers, that was exactly the case with my last HP system (Pavilion Elite HPE-480t) which had 6 GB (3 x 2GB) of Samsung RAM and 3 GB (3 x 1GB) of "Elpida" (never heard of it previously).  Also, don't know if this is true, but someone told me that a system with 9GB of RAM was pretty unusual. Regardless, I never had a problem with that system (used it for almost 11 years before replacing it with the OMEN 30L).

IAC, thanks for your reply and suggestion.
