Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all
Hoping to get some advice and help
I have a Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1035na. I would like to upgrade the RAM from 16GB to 32GB. Running windows 10 64-bit.
Motherboard is Baker: SSID 8767
Supports up to PC4-23400 (DDR4-2933)
Supports up to 32 GB (unbuffered) with two 16 GB DIMMs on 64-bit systems.

I bought a 32GB kit (2x16) of Crucial DDR4 3200MHz CL22 Desktop Memory CT2K16G4DFRA32A. They claim it can downclock to 2933MHz or 2666MHz if system specification only supports 2933MHz or 2666MHz.
(ECC Type=Non-ECC, Form Factor=UDIMM, Pin Count=288-pin, PC Speed=PC4-25600, Voltage=1.2V, Rank and Configuration=1Rx8 or 2Rx8).

On installation got the error bleeps for memory problems, reseated tried again - same thing. Re-installed original memory - all fine. Try again next day, just in case. Machine tries to boot up then restarts tries again and so on - nothing on the screen. Re-intall original RAM, all fine.
Original RAM is Hynix. 2x 8GB 1Rx8 PC4- 3200AA-UA2-11.
HMA81GU6CJR8N-XN NO AD 2032

Is there a clue here ie this Rank and Configuration=1Rx8 or 2Rx8? I don't know if the Crucial RAM is 1Rx8 or 2Rx8 where the Hynix clearly states 1Rx8, dose it make a difference??????

I am interested to know what the problem might be but I also want to get it up and running with 32GB RAM. If any body could recommend RAM that will work out of the box then that would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Pete

@Adiver,

All right, your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1035na PC (2P0X9EA) is fitted with a Baker motherboard (SSID: 8767) and should be able to handle up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-23400, 2933 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 288-pin RAM sticks. I would install DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz RAM, which will down throttle at 2933 MHz.

Now to answer your question.  According to UserBenchMark performance scores for "HP System Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1xxx", like this one: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/52500641, this 2 x 16GB RAM kit will work just fine: Crucial Ballistix BL16G32C16U4W (BL2K16G32C16U4W).M16FE1.  You can purchase this RAM online, such as eBay-UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=BL16G32C16U4W&_sacat=0.

Or, in case you want to consider 2 x 32GB: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/58084492, with: Crucial CT32G4DFD832A.M16FF.  Can be purchased here via eBay-UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1313&_nkw=CT32G4DFD832A&_sacat=0&....

Hope this was helpful.

Hi NonSequitur777,

Thanks for your reply. It was that Crucial compatible upgrade that I used -  CT2K16G4DFRA32A  which is why I'm a touch puzzled as to why it don't work. What about this configuration stuff=1Rx8 or 2Rx8? dose this make a differance?  (I'm a real novice at this stuff) as the original ram is 1Rx8.....

I'd have thought there are many ram sticks that shold just work or am I being simple....

So maybe I try the Crucial Ballistix. Would I need to ensure that this dual+ channel XMP BIOS profile is enabled to ge the best from it?

Thanks for you help

@Adiver,

You raised some very good questions.  First of all -in my experience at least, you should get better RAM performance with dual rank RAM (2Rx8) than with single rank RAM (1Rx8).

And you're correct: any quality RAM (Samsung, Crucial, Kingston, etc.) RAM should work just fine on your desktop, but surprisingly, I didn't see any other RAM running at 2933 MHz on "HP System Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1xxx" systems as far as UserBenchMark is concerned...  Not sure what to make of it.  Trial and error, perhaps?

Kind Regards,
