I am upgrading my HP z2 G3 mini, with a NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 6GB Graphics card.

I bought the Original 280W HP Z2 Mini G5 Workstation PC Adapter Charger + Cord.... i'm just wondering if anyone thinks I will have any success :)... Ghost Thread and all... could I blow this thing up ?!?!?!? I dont want to.. the Quadro 620 is ok.. but.. I thought I'd give it a go.. !!

@3D-Seed,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

I am always up for an upgrade challenge, so let's see where this goes.

My first question is, how are you going to interface an RTX 3000 in your HP Z2 G3 Mini, as this particular model does not have a graphics connection, like an MXM slot.

Looking here amongst fellow HP System Z2 Mini G3 Workstation Users, the only discrete GPU shown is the Quadro M620, which I believe is hard-wired (thus not exchangeable) onto your motherboard -correct me if I'm wrong.

Kind Regards,

@3D-Seed,

If, however, you got an HP Z2 G5 Mini, then the graphics picture changes drastically, as this model does have an MXM slot and has the Nvidia RTX 3000 6GB (p/n: M13733-001) MXM graphics card option available:

@3D-Seed,

Well, calling a spade a spade: this HP Support YouTube video got it dead wrong, as one of its video commenters also noted:

Again: unfortunately, you cannot change or upgrade a (discrete) graphics card on an HP Z2 G3 Mini.

But I'm not sure of the above link.. seems nobody has tried any of it..

Maybe I can run a "mxm to pcie adapter" ?

@3D-Seed,

Look, my friend, let's stick to the facts: an HP Z2 Mini G3 does not have an MXM slot, as you can clearly observe here (Exhibit A) :

Exhibit B would be this HP System Z2 Mini G3 Workstation Userbenchmark link, where none (as in zero) of the almost 300 entries have showed up with anything but the soldered-in Quadro M620.
