HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I posted this question earlier (10:50AM this date)  but do not know if I posted in correct place on the forum. I'll repeat the issue here.

I presently have a HP Compaq 6000 SFF pc (AT492AV) with six (6) GB Ram installed - four (4) GB in slot #1 and two (2) ea. in slots #2 and #4. I would like to upgrade to 10GB in total. I have another 4GB stick (not matched to the one in slot #1) that I would like to utilize. Would that be possible with what I have and if yes, what would be the Ram stick to slot number configuration?

Hi:

You would install the other 4 GB chip in slot 3.

4 + 2 + 4 + 2.

When I apply that particular fix I get 5 beeps, 5 red blinking lights and the fan comes on.

I'm looking at Chapter 2, page 14 of the hardware reference guide for your PC.

c01870924.pdf (hp.com)

My 8000 Elite CMT has the memory slots not colored like the illustration shown in the manual.

In my PC you install the matching capacity memory in the alternating slots.

In yours you may have to install the 2 x 4 GB in the black slots, and the 2 x 2 GB in the white slots.

So, give that a try.

If that doesn't work the 4 GB memory chip you are trying to add is not compatible.

In my initial posting I listed the total ram I have installed as six (6) GB. I believe you took it as:

slot#1 - 4 GB; slot#2 - 2 GB; slot#3 - EMPTY; slot #4 - 2 GB.

In actuality it is as follows:

slot#1 - 4 GB; slot#2 - 1 GB; slot#3 - EMPTY; slot #4 - 1 GB.

Sorry for the confusion, I should have been more expletive. When I configure it as 4, 1, 1, & 4, I get the alarms as noted.

Not a problem.

OK, so what you have tried thus far is:

4 + 1 + 4 + 1 = 5 beeps

4 + 1 + 1 + 4 = 5 beeps

What happens if you install 4 + 4 + 1 + 1

Both 4's in the black slots as shown in the manual and both 1's in the white slots?

If you still get the beeps, the 4 GB memory chip you are trying to add is not compatible.

That HP 600x Pro model series is very hard to find the right memory for.

This is the memory I used in my HP 8000 Elite which is an upscale model of the 6000 Pro and it works fine.

Patriot Signature 4 GB PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 Desktop Memory PSD34G13332 at Amazon.com

I also used this memory in my HP 6200 Pro.

4+4+1+1 = Same alarms and fan comes on.

By the way - my slots are: Black; White; White; & White (if it matters).

Interesting...so then your PC's slots are the same as mine.

The black slot has to be the one that is populated if you only have one memory chip.

So, based on that information, you would install the memory as I originally posted...

4 + 1 + 4 + 1.

I would try the Patriot memory I posted, and you should be fine.

I guess I will return the 4GB stick I got from Amazon and try the Patriot as you suggest. I will advise you of the results.

Thanx,

Mike T.
