Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I've recently upgraded my pc from the factory default one 8gb stick that it had to a faster 16gb kit (2x8). Windows detects the 16gb of ram but only 7.19 GB is usable. I tried using the msconfig to change it but after changing those settings and saving the settings as the number one boot option. But anytime I restart PC and go back into system properties it says 16 gb available and 7.18 usable. After checking the msconfig again the option wasnt save. I am the administrator of the pc. I also tried using the commands to set amount of usable ram in the administrative command prompt but no use. I checked the bios and it only shows one stick being used. I tried moving around the ram slots but only one shows up in bios. I even tried using one I'm each different slot to check that both ram modules are working, and they both do.

Any recommendations on how to get the other 8 GB to be usable?

@KMF21 Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are facing an issue with memory.

Do not worry. I will try to fix the issue.

Your computer Supports DDR3 DIMMs

  • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)

  • PC3-12800 (DDR3-1600)

  • PC3-14400 (DDR3-1866)

Please make sure that both memory has the same speed.

Please interchange the memory and check.

Please install the memory on the 1 and 3 slots and check.
