Have a Pavilion 590--p0066 and want to add an SSD.  This thread shows motherboard location and SSD type (thank you), but I'm a novice and am trying to understand the type of SSD I nee (and if allowed, even a brand and model recommendation).

DO I need:

the type with 2 sets of of teeth (5 and 29 like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J2WBKXF/ref=twister_B07J5Q6SDH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

or with 3 sets of teeth (5 and 19 and 6) like https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX500-NAND-2280SS-Internal/dp/B0784SY515/ref=sr_1_8?gclid=EAIaIQobChM...

Hi Sportsnut,

HP gives good M.2 details for your motherboard in "Expansion Slots" at this (Link).

1. You have a 2280 M.2 socket. This means all 80 mm (3.15 inches in length) drives will work with this socket.

2. Socket 3 means the M.2 socket supports four PCIe lanes.

The only missing detail is if the socket supports SATA (Key B) or NVME (Key M) or both (B + M).

The socket should be key M.

Hi,

Please start a new thread with your questions.

You can replace an Optane drive with a PCIe NVME if you want to do this.

The 590 series HP PCs usually have the M.2 socket located in the same area on the motherboard.

I know my PC has a socket for an SSD, but I'm a novice and am trying to understand the type of SSD I need (and would even appreciate a recommended brand and model).

DO I need:

the type with 2 sets of of teeth (5 and 29 contacts like https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J2WBKXF/ref=twister_B07J5Q6SDH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Hey, just thought I would mention...

Another user with a Links motherboard in a Pavilion 590 series verified the M.2 slot does run at NVMe 3x4 speed...
