I have a four-year-old HP Pavilion HPE with an i7-3770, 3.4 GHz processor and 8GB of memory, 1.0 TB HDD and triple graphics card. It failed. I am told by a very tech-savvy friend that the motherboard has failed since it doesn't even POST. I have also been told that I must replace the motherboard with an identical one or the system will have to be reloaded. Question: Where can I buy an identical motherboard? At what cost? Is it worth it to do the replacement or should I just trash the whole system? I have already bought a new HP Envy through Costco.

Dean, thanks for your reply! I realized my mistake when I "woke up" to what I had done, but didn't quite know how to remedy it -- sorry. The Model # of this PC is: h8-1360t. I have since found out the part # of the motherboard to be: 664040-002. I don't yet know the cost of this part, so I don't yet know if it makes sense to pursue it. Thanks again.
