The SSD upgrade worked fine in my old HP DC7900 I have to connect it physically to SATA1 to boot from otherwise it wont boot if connected to SATA2, no need for BIOS configuration, have you tried your SSD manufacturer for support? try post the question again, what is the BIOS version you have now?

I’m with you completely. Only problem is this is an m.2 nvme form factor ssd in a PCIe x4 adapter so I can’t sata cable it to a connector 🙂

BIOS should detect the installed PCIe card if not detected it may require more power connection check the mnual and installation instruction the power from the PCIe slot may not be enough to power it, have you checked the device manager?

Yes I should have included the detail that this works as an additional storage drive so that tells me I’ve got power. The manufacturer had not been helpful no. The PCIe card manufacturer has been better.
