Hi, i have a question regarding the pin connector to supply a rtx gpu. My hp z440 has 2 cables with 6 pin. How can i connect to a 8 pin gpu?

Many thanks!

@isoplanestudio,

No problem, this is easily fixable.

You are correct: there are no RTX 4070 Ti/Super models fitted with 8-pin PCIe power supply ports.

So, in addition to the 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe adapter cables I illustrated in my previous post, you'll need to purchase a "2x8-Pin Female to PCIE 5.0 12+4 16Pin Video Card Cable 12VHPWR":

Please order the correct adapter, say via AliExpress or any other online electronics eCommerce site, so that the little 4-pin connector fits correctly on your graphics card.

@isoplanestudio,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

Assuming your HP Z440 Workstation is fitted with the stock 700-watt power supply, you can actually use 6-pin PCIe to 8-pin PCIe power adapter cables, which look something like this:

Reason why it is safe/you can do this is because the power supply's 6-pin PCIe power cables can deliver 12V x 18A = 216-watt of power each:

I also used these 6-pin to 8-pin PCIe power adapters in my HP Z440 Workstation upgrade project.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the prompt reply!

I am looking to update the gpu, after installing I7 6700k cpu as you described, and it went smoothly. I have a 700w power supply. And as you have explained is perfect for 8pin connection with the adapter and with a rtx 4060 for example. Now my question is regarding a Gpu rtx 4070 ti super, if there are any models with 8 pin power supply? Or the only option is with 16 pin? How do we make it work in that case?

Thanks a lot!
