HP Touchsmart 610-1050f
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On my somewhat old but mostly functional  HP Touchsmart 610-1050f desktop built-in CD player has inexplicably stopped functioning.  It simply ejects CDs without playing them. What are options for either troubleshooting,  repair of replacement?Thank you  i n advance for useful suggestions.

@Andrew_75 , welcome to the forum.

A better option would be to buy a USB drive.  It will save opening the case.  I have used a USB drive for years.  It works with both my desktop and laptop computers.  From the prices that I have seen for the replacement OEM drive, a USB drive will be less expensive.

Here is the Troubleshooting section for the drive:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-touchsmart-610-1000-desktop-pc-series/5039931/model/5090653/...

Thank you for idea  about USB drive. I  do have several.  However I need CD player to install important software which  is this case is only available in CD form.

The choice may be between a compatible CD player  to replace dysfunctional   built -in unit, which I would prefer, or an extenal device.

I will able this week to try out troubleshooting infortmation which you had sent along.

You are welcome, @Andrew_75 !

I actually use an external USB CD ROM to install software on my desktop and laptop, because neither has an internal CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive.  As I stated in my previous post, it has worked well for me.  Good luck!
