As the subject says, I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion 590-p0044 Desktop PC from:
Replace AMD Ryzen5-2400G (Raven Ridge) 3.6 GHz, 4 cores/8 threads 45 - 65 W Socket AM4
to
AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core, 12-thread Unlocked Desktop Processor with Wraith Spire Cooler Socket AM4.
The specs show that I can replace it with the AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Processor with Wraith Stealth Cooler, but for the difference in price, I'd rather have the 3600 if I can use it.

@WynonaR , welcome to the Community.
The list of processors in the Product Specifications/Processor/Processor upgrade information, have been fully tested to assure they are compatible with the motherboard: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-590-p0000a/19390500/model/21761849/docum...
If a processor is not listed it will most likely not work. HP has their motherboards made to their specifications to use with many different models, with different configurations.

Thank you for your reply, Old_geekster.
I have already been to the link you showed and gotten the same info. Which is why I came here.
It's not that I don't believe you, I'm pretty sure you're correct. 😞 Still, I was hoping against hope that maybe the replacement CPUs hadn't yet been updated; that the 3600 might work.
Most likely there's something within the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 that just doesn't mesh with the motherboard on this machine. I'm just not ready to give up yet, though. 🙂

You are welcome, @WynonaR!
You can believe me! HP has their motherboards made to their specifications. They use the same motherboard in many different models with many different configurations. The motherboards are modified for each model with only a certain amount of processors fully tested to be compatible. This is why I say that if it is not on the list it will most likely not work.
There are always reports of members using a processor not on the list and it worked. However, it is a long shot. I can only tell you what HP states in their specifications. If I tell you it will work and it doesn't, you will be upset with me, but more importantly, with HP. So, there you have it.
