Hi.  The BIOS in my off-lease HP 6300 SFF is American Megatrends K01 V02.05.  There appears to be no option in the setup utility to enable virtualization or VT.

Can I replace/overwrite this BIOS with an HP BIOS (sp63016 is the most recent) that has a VT option?  I want to run legacy video capture software in XP mode.  Processor is i7@3.9 ghz, operating system is Win 7 64 bit.

Thanks for your help!

In case some other poor newbie has a similar problem/question:

After running down a number of leads, I finally landed on this document

Preinstalled Software Overview

I learned that the virtualization toggle is located somewhere in the Security menus of the installed BIOS.  I found it, switched it to "enable" and installed XP Mode, no problem.  So, no need to update or flash the installed BIOS.

However, and I found this out after the fact, XP mode will not solve the problem of trying to run legacy hardware on your machine.  In other words, your Canon DV camera (or other device) will not be recognized in XP mode -- even if it is recognized by a computer with XP installed as the OS.  Apparently, XP mode only solves software issues, not hardware.

So . . . one needs to either capture video on an old machine running XP, or search eBay for another DV camcorder that is compatible with Windows 7.  Hope this helps.

I would try running in a VM (virtual machine) with XP.    Download Oracle VM Virtualbox to run a VM using XP
