OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-022na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-022na comes as standard with a 256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD.

This is the C: drive, the location of the windows operating system and the boot drive.

I want to replace this drive with a new, larger capacity M.2 SSD.

How do I transfer the entire contents of the existing drive onto the new SSD and then install the new SSD which will then be the new C: Drive and Boot location?

Appreciate your advice...

Thanks,

Kewlers

Hi:

You would have to buy an external adapter to temporarily install the replacement NVMe SSD in, so you can clone the existing drive's contents to the new one.

Something like this...

SSK Aluminum M.2 NVME SSD Enclosure Adapter, USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) to NVME PCI-E M-Key Solid S...

Then you can use the free Macrium Reflect software to clone the existing drive's contents to the new one.

Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition

You want the software on the left side of the page under the Backup at Home section.

You also have the option to install the new SSD and use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

You can also clean install W10 on the new SSD by making a bootable USB W10 installer with the Media creation tool.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Sometimes a picture is worth 1000 words and other times it is better to let someone else with experience do the work.

Kewlers:  At your location are there any stores that sell the M.2 where they have a technician that can do the upgrade for you?  If there are I recommend you have them do the replacement for you.  If done correctly, your new C drive and windows 10 will be identical to the old C drive but 2x or larger and you will not have to re-install anything.

Your system seems new and very likely is approved for Windows 11.  Youi should be able to upgrade to Windows 11 easily after getting a larger M.2

If there is no nearby help let us know and I or Promethee or possibly any of the experts here can provide a walk-through with pictures depending on time and interest.
