HP ENVY 750-500 Desktop PC series
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP Envy 750-524 (Windows 10 Home - 64 bit) comes with a Sandisk 128Gb SSD as its OS drive. I'd like to upgrade it to a WD (Western Digital) 250Gb SSD. Both are SATA drives. Is that upgrade possible? And if it is, will I run into ID or other install problems with the UEFI/BIOS - say, not recognizing the serial number of the new drive or somethng?

If both are SATA, it should be fine. No, you won't have problem from HP side, BIOS/UEFI side, etc.

 

You might have problems re. Windows 10 activation, and in order to avoid them, you need to take these precautions. Activate Windows 10 using Microsoft account - starting with Anniversary update built from last year, if you used MS account to login to the PC and if you enabled a special option, you no longer need a license key to activate your Windows - just login and use your Microsoft account - here is more info >> http://www.windowscentral.com/how-re-activate-windows-10-after-hardware-change

 

Click on Start > Go to Settings > Click Update & security. Click Activation.

Click Add an account. (Your account must have administrator privileges to go through this process.)

Enter your Microsoft account credentials, and click Sign-in. If the local account isn't connected to a Microsoft account, you'll also need to enter the password for the ex-local account.

Once you completed the process, you should see the "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account" message in the Activation page, indicating that the linked was successfully processed.

Based on your specific case scenario, you need to active Windows your method.

 

After Windows reinstallation, go to Settings > Activation to ensure your Windows is activated

That DOES help, IT_WinSec.  My WIn10 build IS currently activated, so indeed, assuming the pc boots OK, that would be one of the very first things to check. I'll follow that link you sent in your great reply.
