I have a KG 0851 keyboard and an MG 0856 mouse which share the same receiver.  The left mouse button is randomly malfunctioning and I only want to replace the mouse.  The replacement has to either be able to use the receiver currently installed or come with a receiver which is compatible with the KG 0851 keyboard.  Any suggections?

Sounds simple but not that simple because each set must have a code (even only from 000 to 999 or 0000 to 9999) because just thinking about 20 users sit on a same room using same code for keyboards and mice. The bottom line is you have to find hard to be able to get a mouse to work with your existing keyboard using same reveiver (old or new).

I know HP sells a reciever which can connect to 5 devices

Logitech also sells a similar receiver but for 6 devices.  But those receivers may not compatible with your existing keyboard.

Given simple thing is not simple, probably you have to buy a new set.

Thanks, how about disabling the MG 0856 in Device Manager and installing something like a Logitech mouse with its own receiver.  Will that work?

Not for sure. I know HP may use same production lines with Logitech or same manufacturer but that is the end of the story. You can try, if this worked then great otherwise using plan B.
