HP Pavilion Elite h8-1280t Product number: QC461AV
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Looking for a Replacement video card for GeForce GT 530 to work on HP Pavilion Elite h8-1280t. Understand it can be a problem upgrading to a new video card and the motherboard won't support new technology.

  • HP Pavilion Elite h8-1280t
  • Product number: QC461AV

Original specs say:

Graphics
Must select one of the following options:
  • GeForce GT 530 (2 GB)
  • GeForce GT 545 (3 GB)
  • GeForce GTX 550i (1 GB)
  • GeForce GTX 580 (1.5 GB)
  • Radeon HD 6850 (1 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7450 (1 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7570 (1 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7570 (2 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7670 (1 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7770 (2 GB)
  • Radeon HD 7950 (3 GB)

Expansion Slots
  • PCI Express x16: 2 (Generation 2 speed)
  • PCI Express x1: 2 (Generation 2 speed)
  • PCI Express x1 mini card: 1

Update:

Got new MSI Navidia GeForce GT 1030 Graphics Card and computer will not boot. Get the screen below, can't ESC to the startup menu just stuck on the screen. Also installed Navidia GeForce version 391.01 drivers for the 1030 Card, but still have the old Navidia GeForce GT 530 Display Adapter and Drivers in my Device Manager. If I remove them in Device Manager and put in the new card and it doesn't work, will I still be able to put my old card back in and be recognized by my PC?

I'm wondering if I need to update my AMI Bios 7.06 HP doesn't have any update for my HP Pavilion HPE h8-1280t CTO Desktop PC for Win 10, but there is one for Win 7 and I doubt it would make any difference it's dated 12-29-2012.

If put the GeForce GT 530 back in my PC boots right back up.

Any idea what I might try or how to get a BIOS Update? I used the AMI Bios Utility and it tells me Hewlett Packard for BIOS Update.

Hi,

In my experience, I'm pretty sure you'll be able to put in a GTX 1660 or GTX 1050Ti. I'm not sure of AMD models.

The 1050Ti will get all its power off the PCIe bus, and the 1660 will require either a 4pin, 6pin or 8pin power cable. If your PSU doesn't already have the right power connector, you can get PATA/SATA to 4/6/8pin adapters off of eBay pretty cheap.

The cards themselves will probably be PCIe 3.0, but will be backwards compatible to PCIe 2.0.

Have a look at the specs on a few retailer sites for the power requirements.

Hope this helps.

BIOS version 7.15 may or may not help, but worth a go.

And yes, if it doesn't work and you've removed the old drivers you'll still be able to use the old card. You'll probably just need to download the drivers for it again from the nVidia site.

Well I gave up on the GT 1030 and had to use Win 10 to get my PC back to where it was.

Do you think the BIOS 7.15 will work better on Win 10 even though it's made for Win 7.

Looking at trying Asus GeForce GT 730 2GB GDDR5 Graphics Card GT730-2GD5-BRK. Navidia tells me it should work, but they told me the GT 1030 would work.

Anyway what do you think the chances are it will work?

Thanks...
