I am trying to determine if I can use an SDD to replace the current HDD. Any help will be appreciated.

Yes, you can replace the 3.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

 

Something like this:

 

Amazon.com: Western Digital 1TB WD Blue SA510 SATA Internal Solid State Drive SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s,...

 

You will also need a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter so the smaller SSD can mount where the existing drive goes now.
