Please forgive me if I am on the incorrect forum for this question, or if it is too simplistic. My desktop has an interior dongle for the mouse and keyboard. They are not working correctly, and I want to replace them with an nice and easy exterior dongle/keyboard/mouse. I am terrified to open the back of the computer to try and remove the interior dongle. Is there a way I can disable it, or if I just plug in an exterior set, will it override the interior one? I would not have purchased this particular desktop if I had known at the time it had this weird setup! Thanks so much for any information.

You're welcome!
OK.
That is good to know.
This isn't the first time I have seen conflicting HP marketing information and documentation.
That is interesting, but not terribly important as it won't be connected to anything if you no longer use the original mouse/keyboard combo.
You can leave it in situ. It won't interfere with anything.
Your new mouse/keyboard combo will come with a new USB dongle to plug into a port at the rear of the PC.
That is when it will be time to pair it with the mouse and keyboard.

The dongle is plugged in at the rear in one of the USB ports.
Watch the video. The video is in Spanish, but what you need to see is an image. Go to minute 5:26. That minute mark shows the instruction manual with an image showing that the dongle is plugged in at the rear

Thanks so much for your response. There isn't a dongle at the rear outside of the computer. Only thing plugged into a USB port is my printer! If you go to page 10 of the manual for the computer, there is a picture of the internal view. It shows the USB dongle board. http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c07978676.pdf
Seems like a silly place to me, but as you can probably guess, I am not super computer literate.
