I prepairing to replace optical drive in my computer HP Compaq dc7900 Small Form Factor. What happens when I replace the drive?

The "stock" (original) replacement part number for your optical drive is HP 419496-001 ("16X/48X DVD-ROM SATA optical drive - With front Black bezel"). Nothing will happen when it is a straight optical drive replacement. Your PC will automatically recognize the unit, and if necessary, update the driver.
