Now I am more confused than ever!

I have read so many "experts" that say that substituting an SSD for my HD will demonstrably increase my computer speed

( startup speed, shutdown speed, opening web pages especially).

So WHAT does this boil down to IF I would like to accomplish what I desired"?? OR should I just give up?

Researching further, I believe  the M.2 slot accepts a  NMVe. Is that correct?

If so, will  a 250 GB  NMVe card do the job?

I see a PNY 250 or a Sandisc  Ultra for under $50

Hope this ends my quest!

@braxx201,

The PNY NVMe m.2 SSD 250GB is rated up to  twice as fast on the write. UP to  5 times on the read.  As long you you can get the data on the 1TB to less than 225GB.  You will still need the M.2 NVME to USB3 adapter. and the proper software I mentioned.

Great!   I only have 116 GB used space so that should be good?

As I understand the procedure, is to

1:Download Macrium Reflect cloning software

2: install the SSD in the slot

3: Clone the HD.

4:Disconnect the HD and start up from the SSD -  with maybe some "fine details"  such as  booting up which I hope I can figure out.

Correct?

Hopefully this is the END of the road!

Macrium Reflect 7 is not for cloning to a smaller drive.

".........This is useful if you are upgrading to a larger hard drive.".

Here is a explanation of cloning to a smaller device.

If I can just plug the new SSD in the M2 slot, I  cannot figure out what I would do with the "adapter", which is an enclosure for an SSD and where would the USB plug get plugged into?

Cloning seems to be the problem. I have a Recovery disk for my computer. Is there a way that I could just copy that onto the SSD and forget about the old HD.
