HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower PC (ENERGY STAR)

I have a Hewlett-Packard model 18E4 computer. I have noticed that the current processor in this device is under a constant high load, reaching 100% of its capacity frequently, which causes lags and slowness in overall performance.

After extensive research, I have decided to upgrade the processor to improve the performance of my computer. However, I have encountered uncertainty regarding the supported processor specifications for my computer model, specifically regarding the processor socket. I believe my motherboard can support the LGA 1150 socket, but I'm not sure if there are other sockets that are also supported.

In this context, I would be very grateful if you could provide me with a complete list of all the processors that can be supported by my computer, including specific information on the socket and compatibility of the processors. This will help me make the best upgrade decision and ensure the best possible fit.

@arberkapllani,

Welcome to our HP community forum!

According to HP's specs, the best processor that is compatible with your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 TWR is an i7-4790 (4-Cores, 8-Threads, 3.60 GHz up to 4.00 GHz, 84-watt TDP).

However, if you want to push the envelope just a little further, the fabled i7-4790K (4-Cores, 8-Threads, 4.00 GHz up to 4.40 GHz, 88-watt TDP) -also known as the "Devil's Canyon", is also compatible with your desktop. Runs a little hotter, but not too bad since an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 TWR only allows a very minor overclock capability on "K" processors anyway.

I would recommend using identical (same brand, model, and capacity) 4x8GB of DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, DIMM (UDIMM), 240-pin RAM.  Also use a quality SATA SSD (such as a Samsung 870 EVO) as your primary (boot) drive.

As a matter of fact, it so happens that an HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Tower was one of my legacy HP upgrade projects, and the i7-4790K I installed is working like a charm to this very day: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrading-an-HP-EliteDesk-800-G....

All 4th generation Intel Core processors (please, don't bother with Celeron and Pentium processors) are compatible with your desktop.  Here is a(n almost) complete listing of processors compatible with your desktop: https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Core_i7/i7-4790.html.

And this HP EliteDesk 800 G1 TWR User link is also useful: https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/HP-EliteDesk-800-G1-TWR/1283.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
