Solved: Ryzen 5 1600 not working - HP Support Community

Hi, I'm upgrading from the Ryzen 3 1200 that came with the tower and bought a Ryzen 5 1600, which is supposedly supported by the 8399 Basswood mobo I have. My problem is the system refuses to boot when the new CPU is installed. I've changes the video card to a RX 570 4 gb and upgraded the psu to a 500w and can't figure out why it's not working. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hey guys ,just a follow-up on what happened. I ended up getting the game gigabyte b450 motherboard instead, and either board was going to leave the front usb ports useless. So my guy, since he does a lot of HP work, offered to buy all the old parts and sell me a new case as well lol. Did a 1 for 1 swap on the DVD rw and gave me the case for $20. So I basically have an entirely new PC now, because I already changed the psu and video card, now the mobo and CPU and case as well, the only HP part left is the HDD (which I'm getting a SSD soon too). Didn't expect to completely rebuild it but that's what happened this week haha. But thanks again guys for the help, it's information I'll likely use in the future, and knowledge is power😊👍🏽

Just want to add that it's fine when the original cpu is in it, only have a problem with the new one. And I've updated the BIOs as well. It just powers on but I get nothing

Just a thought here. It could be that the CPU has problems, a very rare situation. Or you could try resetting the BIOS with the CMOS jumper. The instructions are here. That will reset the BIOS to the default values.

The monitor had shut itself down the tower wasnt functioning but i did catch a quick glimpse of the screen before it went dark and rebooted {withg the old cpu in it} and i saw something about the CMOS then. Should i reset the BIOS before i install the new cpu?

Hi, you can try the reset, maybe works. You can try too, turn off the desktop, put off the cmos battery. After 30sec put on and turn on the computer and test.

If dont work, try to download the other bios that has in hp site. And install. Maybe it is a bios problem.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I tried it to no avail unfortunately. As well as the other suggestion that I was recommended. Ended up biting the bullet and talking to attack repair shop where I was picking up a monitor and he said he's seen that issue on the 8399 boards before sometimes they're stuck with the chip that comes with it. He suggested I replace the board which was something I thought about doing anyways. He's offering to do it for cheap and put in an MSI b450 board. Do you have any familiarity with those? Or would those on HP products? The guy I'm dealing with is trustworthy as far as I know lol never had any problems with them in the past but since I'm going this far with it I just want to make sure it's not something I'll have an issue with

i want to buy some Ryzen processors in the future 😃 . Now i have a AMD processor, but it is a buldozzer plataform, is a fx8300, but i have some problem like you had. I switch a atlon processor to fx and he dont turn on anymore. So i reset, and updatting bios again, and like a magic, the desktop turn on and start. So when you receved the motherboard, check the manual if has a link to update the bios and processors that are compatible whit it.
